Templates are drawn for all stones that are to be replaced. Mostly a template will just depict the section through a moulding. But in more complicated elements further templates (from different perspectives), maybe required.
The templates are scribed onto the stone block, and worked by the mason (see Old to New). An exact copy of the original stone is created.
